dated May 7, 1957 : Presidential election

Polling for the Presidential election commenced in New Delhi and at all the State capitals on May 6. The candidates in the election are Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Ch. Hari Ram, a Punjab advocate, and Mr. Nagendra Narayan Das of Gauhati. Prime Minister Nehru was among the earliest to arrive at Parliament House to cast his vote. He was followed by the Home Minister, Pandit Pant, the Finance Minister, T.T. Krishnamachari, and other Ministers.
