This Day That Age
Mr. Morarji Desai, Union Minister of Commerce and Industries, has urged those engaged in the handloom industry to organise themselves into co-operative societies. Inaugurating the fourth Handloom Week in New Delhi on May 5, he said the Government were providing protection to the handloom industry by giving it all possible help in the shape of working capital, rebate on handloom cloth, cess on mill-made cloth etc. It should be realised that sooner or later the industry had to progress without Government help. The promoters of the handloom industry should, therefore, think how best the industry could be organised to make it self-supporting. The industry could make desired progress not by individual efforts but through collective efforts and by forming co-operative societies.
