Ration dealers seek steps to address issues

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Minister for Revenue K.P. Rajendran said here on Sunday that the All-Kerala Retail Ration Dealers' Association had succeeded in drawing the attention of the public and the Government to food security.

Meeting held

Mr. Rajendran was inaugurating a public meeting organised as part of the 27th State-level meet of the association.

He said the Government was considering the problems faced by the ration dealers and would initiate steps to address the issues.

The Minister said the Government was holding discussions at various levels in this regard.

Association president and MLA K.V. Thomas said the Government should use the network of ration dealers to resist the entry of multi-national companies and Indian giants into the retail business.

Evolve new system

Prof. Thomas said the APL/BPL division had been created in an unscientific manner and it should be abolished to evolve a system that would suit the State's conditions.

The ruling and Opposition leaders agreed on the issue, he said.

Former MLA Johny Nelloor, State General Secretary of the association R. Radhakrishnan and working president M.V. Basheer were among those present on the occasion.

Ration dealers P.P. Devassy and P.K. Raghavan were honoured at the meeting.
