Srikakulam: It is official now. After the tough talk of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Pradesh Congress President K. Kesava Rao over indiscipline at the PCC office-bearers meeting here, action against Congress leaders who had, overtly and covertly, scuttled the chances of official party candidates in the recently-held election to the Local Authorities Constituency, is expected. Now it came in the form of suspension of Naresh Kumar Agarwal (MLA, Itchapuram) and ZPP vice-chairman, Duvvada Srinivas.
Enquiry conducted
While Dr. Reddy and Mr. Rao asserted that under no circumstances indiscipline would be tolerated, another senior leader M. Kodanda Reddy, who had conducted an enquiry into the cross-voting leading to the defeat of official Congress candidate Tankala Babji at the hands of rebel candidate Gorle Haribabu Naidu said that `cross- voting on a such large scale was `inexcusable'. Mr. Kesava Rao asserted that the action was based on the report of Mr. Kodanda Reddy. It may be recalled that whether it was during the enquiry over cross-voting or at the office-bearers meeting of the PCC, the opinion was in favour of strong action against persons who had worked against the official candidate. Immediately after the election, Tankala Babji had complained that besides Naresh Kumar Agarwal and Duvvada Srinivas, Minister Botsa Satyanarayana had also worked against him. Another senior leader and Parvathipuram MP,Vairicherla Kishore Chandra Dev had virtually extended his support to Mr. Gorle Haribabu Naidu by announcing that `injustice' had been done to Mr.Haribabu Naidu and that he would talk to the party high command and see that justice is done to him. It remains to be seen whether there would be any action against these two leaders.
