KURNOOL: Mayor and District Congress Committee (DCC) president S. Raghurami Reddy has asked farmers under KC Canal not to get carried away by the false impressions given by the Telugu Desam Party leaders on GO No. 3. Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said the Sunkesula reservoir with enhanced capacity was more beneficial than insisting upon storage at TB dam, 250 km upstream. He explained that KC Canal farmers cultivated paddy after a long gap only after the Andhra Pradesh Government initiated several measures to increase water supply to the canal from Srisailam reservoir. The enhanced storage capacity at Sunkesula, assistance from Srisailam and Alaganur balancing reservoir would provide more water than their entitlement to KC canal farmers. Apart from it, the enhanced storage capacity at Sunkesula would also solve the drinking water problem of Kurnool city. Mr. Raghurami Reddy said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy himself announced launch of Sunkesula barrage widening works immediately. A new division was also created for investigation of Sunkesula barrage proposal. The DCC president called upon Congress functionaries to attend the party's State-level plenary at Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad on May 14.
