Declare Karaikal a backward district: PMK plea to Centre

Puducherry: Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary party leader M. Ramadoss has urged the Centre to declare Karaikal a backward district. In a release here on Saturday, he said once the announcement was made there would be immediate opportunities for the district to get various development schemes of the Centre. He said Karaikal was made a separate revenue district a few years ago. For decades, Karaikal had been bereft of developmental programmes and remained a backward district. When compared to the pace of progress of the other three regions (Puducherry, Mahe and Yanam), Karaikal is a backward pocket.
