B. Shivaram
HASSAN: Former Congress Minister B. Shivaram, MLA, has criticised former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda for declaring that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was not following the "Raja dharma". He said that within hours of his saying so, Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had said he would impose a "lakshman rekha" on his statements before the media. This very action had shown that the BJP was not following the "Raja dharma", he said. Mr. Shivaram told presspersons here on Saturday that Mr. Gowda should preach "Raja dharma" not to the BJP but to his sons. He criticised the statement of A.T. Ramaswamy, Arakalagudu MLA, that the joint Grama Vatsavya by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Mr. Yediyurappa in Srirampura would unite the JD(S) and the BJP. He said the Deputy Chief Minister was coming to Srirampura because of the threat posed by Mr. Gowda. The BJP was surrendering totally for the sake of power. The Chief Minister had said he would hand over power to the BJP on October 4. But many things could happen before that time, and Mr. Gowda had something different in mind, he alleged. Mr. Shivaram said that certain things that had not been announced in the budget had now been approved by the Cabinet. After one year, the Government was saying it would give charge of the implementation of the Bhagyalakshmi Yojana (whereby Rs. 10,000 each would be deposited in the name of newborn baby girls) to the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India. He alleged that the BJP wanted power at any cost and was not interested in the welfare of the people. The Congress would prefer going to the polls rather than compromising and allying with the JD(S) to form another coalition Government, he added.
