Residents demand regular water supply

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: Residents of different localities in the city continued their protest under the banner of the Hyderabad Karnataka Janapara Sangharsha Samiti by organising an hour-long "rasta roko" in front of the Deputy Commissioners office complex on the main road here demanding regular and adequate supply of drinking water to all localities.

The slogan-shouting residents also started a bonfire of used tyres on the road as a mark of protest. The demonstration was led by president of the samiti Laxman Dasti. The week-long dharna by the samiti in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office entered the second day on Sunday. The samiti had given a call for a Gulbarga city bandh on May 11 to protest against the indifferent attitude of elected representatives to problems encountered by residents and failure of the officials to discharge their mandatory duties of providing drinking water to the people and other basic amenities.
