Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial `A damning indictment' (May 5). The observations of the Winograd Commission in its interim report on the lack of proper judgment on the part of the Israeli Government in triggering the war with Lebanon must appeal to a much wider audience. Undoubtedly, it applies to the planners of adventures (or misadventures) such as NATO's war in Afghanistan and the U.S.-led coalition's invasion of Iraq. These wars have crippled the invaded country's institutions of government and condemned its citizens to lives of insecurity. The Winograd Commission's report must bring around the world's decision-makers to deliberate on its applicability in the context of the localised and globalised wars their nations are presently engaged in.
A.S. Aulakh,
* * * The Winograd Commission's severe criticism of Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert applies to President George W. Bush also perfectly for his aggression in Iraq. Is it just a coincidence or because of the fact that birds of a feather flock together?
T.V. Shankar Narayanan,
