MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police pasted on Sunday a notice of attachment on the door of an apartment of celebrated painter, M.F. Husain as per the order of a Haridwar court. ``The notice of attachment is under Section 282/283 of the Criminal Procedure Code for compelling Mr. Husain's appearance in court,'' Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) told The Hindu . Mr. Husain is facing a case for painting Bharatmata and a Hindu deity in an allegedly inappropriate way. The flat is located in a sky-rise building, Jolly Maker-III, in the posh neighbourhood of Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai. The flat, which could be sealed if Mr. Husain does not respond to the notice, is occupied by his son, Shafat Husain who was not home. Mr. Husain lives in London and another son, Owais, lives in Dubai. His daughter Raisa is in the United States. The city police are also contacting the Collector's office to find out if the painter has any other immovable assets in Mumbai. The Special Judicial Magistrate, K.S. Shukla of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, passed the attachment order recently after Mr. Husain failed to appear before him several times despite a warrant. He has been declared a proclaimed offender. The court was moved by a local lawyer, Arvind Srivastava, in 2005 against Mr. Husain for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
