HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Girijana Sangham has demanded that the State Government implement the recommendations made by the committees headed by retired IAS officers like J.M. Girglani on issues pertaining to tribal lands under occupation. The Sangham wanted the Government to conduct a survey for ascertaining the extent of forest, revenue and other lands being enjoyed by non-tribals and initiate measures to give pattas to tribals on the lands on which they were dependent for several years. The sangham will organise district and mandal level seminars from May 7 to 10 to create awareness among the people on tribal rights. This will be followed by submission of memorandum to officials between May 11 and 15. Participating in a round table organised here on Sunday, Sangham State secretary R. Sriram Naik called upon tribals to forcibly occupy the lands belonging to them if the Government failed to respond to their demands. Though the committees submitted their reports two years ago, the Government was yet to initiate steps for implementing the recommendations.
