State's plea to Centre

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government has urged the Centre to reconsider the stipulation of population of 300 plus for implementation of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyuteekaran Yojna.

In a letter addressed to Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Saturday, State Energy Minister Surya Narayan Patro said if the criterion was followed, most villages and habitation in Orissa would be excluded from the purview of RGGVY. "If the policy of 300 plus will be implemented, most tribal pockets will be deprived of such electricity and the very purpose of RGGVY will be defeated," he said.
