CUDDALORE: Actor-cum-politician Vijayakant has said the golden jubilee celebrations planned to mark the 50-year tenure of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in Assembly should not be an official function. Mr. Vijayakant who visited Vriddhachalam on Sunday told presspersons that since Mr. Karunanidhi was elected on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ticket, only that party should arrange the function, he said. Speaking on Tamil movie "Periyar," he said certain scenes were contrary to the truth. For instance, on the day of launch of the DMK, Mr Karunanidhi was not present, whereas in the film he is shown as present. He said there were many ways of helping the people. Based on the request of the people of his constituency for ensuring uninterrupted supply to water-starved areas, he had organised deployment of two water tankers daily to Kamaraj Nagar in the Seplanatham area in the Vriddhachalam Assembly constituency to alleviate the problem of the people residing in Uyyakondaraavi, Keezhpathi, Melpathi, Komangalam and Uthangal. It was being done out of his own funds. Referring to the controversial Palar issue, Mr Vijayakant sought the intervention of the Centre to resolve the issue.
