Thiruvananthapuram: The State branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has expressed strong protest over the Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary's allegation that the death of children at SAT Hospital was the result of a conspiracy hatched by the IMA. The IMA had only probed the veracity of the media reports on the incident, in view of its impact on public health. "The Government had relied on the Indian Medical Association report to disprove the deaths caused by chikungunya [in the State sometime back]. The same forces that welcomed the report on the chikungunya outbreak are now crying foul when the IMA confirms the Government stand on the SAT issue. There was no attempt on our part to blame the Government or the Health Minister," the press note quoting IMA State secretary R. Ramesh said on Sunday. The press note said the CPI(M) secretary's statement was a bid to muzzle the IMA and divert public attention from the real issue.
