CHANDIGARH: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would lay the foundation stone of 1,200 MW Thermal Power Plant at village Khedar in district Hisar on May 19, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced on Sunday while addressing a a public meeting at village Khurana in Kaithal district. While assuring the people of uninterrupted power supply in the next 28 months, he said that the Government had initiated various projects for the generation of 5,000 MW of additional power in the State. Mr.Hooda urged the people to avail maximum benefit of the scheme under which the State Government had waived off the interest and penalty on cooperative loans worth Rs.825 crores taken by the artisans, labourers, weaker sections and marginal farmers. He reiterated that his regime would set up Haryana Rural Development Authority on the pattern of Haryana Urban Development Authority to provide all modern facilities including sewerage to the people of rural areas. He further disclosed that the Haryana Government had earmarked Rs.2,650 crores this financial year for imparting quality education. He was speaking after inaugurating the Baba Sahib Dr. Ambedkar Government College at Kaithal. Mr.Hooda said that Dr. Ambedkar was an embodiment of hard work and sincerity who devoted his entire life to the uplift of the poor. He announced that job- oriented courses would be started in the college. He disclosed that Government colleges were also being constructed at Jhajjar, Mullana, Tosham and Julana. He reiterated that his regime was committed to transform Haryana into the number one State.Referring to the disbursement of compensation to the farmers for the loss of their crops due to heavy rainfall and hailstorm during February and March, he said that Rs. 225 crores had been sanctioned for disbursement for the crop loss, which was highest in the country. Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana, Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala and local MLA Shamsher Singh Surjewala also spoke.
