Temperature rises

HYDERABAD: The State slipped into sultry weather again on Sunday following sudden rise in day temperatures. Several places in Telangana and Rayalaseema reeled under excessive heat.

The highest temperature for the period was 43 degrees C, recorded in Khammam. Isolated rains continue over the State on Monday too, according to a forecast. — Special Correspondent

18 injured in accident

NALGONDA: Eighteen passengers of an APSRTC bus sustained injuries when it overturned at a culvert at Palvai between Nalgonda and Devarakonda on Sunday. The accident occurred when the driver tried to prevent a collision with a lorry at the narrow culvert. — Staff Reporter

Landmines unearthed

KHAMMAM: The police unearthed ten landmines planted by CPI (Maoist) naxalites in Bandirevu-Gollaguppa forest area. Superintendent of Police Rajiv Kumar Meena said that three landmines weighed four kg each. — Special Correspondent

Meeting cancelled

KADAPA: `Dial Your Collector' and grievance cell meeting in the Collectorate slated for May 7 have been cancelled owing to Praja Patham, Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said on Sunday. Free medical camp

KADAPA: Kadapa MLA Mohd. Ahmedullah has urged voluntary organisations to conduct free medical camps for the benefit of the poor and the weaker sections.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a free medical camp at the urban health centre at Akkayapalle here. He gave away nutrition kits and medicines to pregnant women. - Staff Reporter

LPG cylinder blast

KURNOOL: Property worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs was destroyed in a fire caused by LPG cylinder blast at Daniel Puram in Nandyal town on Sunday. The blast occurred accidentally in the house of retired employee Basha. Nobody was injured. - Special Correspondent

Body found

KURNOOL: The railway police recovered the body of an unidentified person aged 45 years near Veldurthi railway station in Kurnool district on Sunday. The body has been sent for post-mortem. - Special Correspondent

Kakinada: The chairman of Abhyudaya foundation and philanthropist Badam Madhavarao has announced a donation of Rs.50,000 to Alluri Seetharamaraju Kala Vedika for extending financial assistance to the stage artistes in distress.
