Aim is to reduce workload of the staff: Paloli

  • Says more budget allocation for panchayats
  • Stresses need for people's participation in Plan process

PATHANAMTHITTA: Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty has said that the Government is considering creation of more posts in the Panchayat Department with a view to reducing workload of the employees.

The Minister was inaugurating the valedictory session of the three-day State meet of the Kerala Panchayat Employees Association (KPEA) at Muthoor near Thiruvalla on Sunday.

He said that the Government had made more budget allocation for panchayats so as to ensure smooth and effective rural development.

Mr. Mohammed Kutty alleged that the functioning of local self-governments was badly affected during the five-year rule of the United Democratic Front.

He stressed the need to ensure maximum people's participation in the People's Planning process, besides ensuring transparency in the functioning of local bodies in order to get more powers for the local self-governments as part of the decentralisation process. The Minister sought the co-operation of all employees in the Government's efforts to make the functioning of local self-governments effective, transparent and people-friendly. KPEA president V.V. Thankamony, presided.

    Office-bearers

Mr. Thankamony was re-elected State president of the KPEA at the organisational elections held at the State meet on Sunday. The other office-bearers are: B. Vijayan, K.P. Mohandas, K. Purushothaman, K. Gowri, vice-presidents, K.R. Rajan, general secretary, V. Siddique, K.M. Sivaraman, K.M. Abraham, K. Bahuleyan Pillai, secretaries, and V.G. Gopi, treasurer.
