Hassan: Health and Family Welfare Minister R. Ashok has said the Government had launched Asha Yojana wherein 15,000 volunteers are appointed on an honorarium of Rs. 500. They are provided 15 days training. Now they are working in the backward districts of Bellary, Raichur, Gulbarga, Bidar, Gulbarga, Bijapur, Bagalkot and Kolar districts. They will be working in rural areas and one volunteer will cover a population of one thousand.
Awareness
They will create awareness among people on communicable diseases and the preventive measure to be taken. Totally, 50,000 volunteers will be appointed in a phased manner. The Minister was addressing presspersons in Belur on Sunday. The Minister said 250 doctors, including specialists had been recruited and their appointment orders would be despatched soon. In addition, another 250 doctors would be appointed. In all, 10,000 staff would be appointed, including 2,807 para-medical staff, he said. Mr. Ashok said the Government was bringing in legislation making it compulsory for students who had taken government assistance to get into MBBS course in government as well in private medical colleges under government quota to serve in rural areas for three years after completing their MBBS. The Minister said from the next academic year, government medical colleges in Shimoga, Raichur and Mandya would start functioning.
Suvarna Grama Yojana
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj C.M. Udasi said the Suvarna Grama Yojana would be launched in the State wherein 1,000 villages would be developed at a cost of Rs. 1 crore each. He was addressing presspersons in Belur. Totally, 1,129 villages had been identified in the State, including eight villages in Belur taluk. Mr. Udasi said the Centre had included five districts under National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme and Rs. 76 crore would be spent in each district. In this, 50 per cent would be implemented through the gram panchayat, 29.5 per cent through taluk panchayat and 19.50 per cent through the zilla panchayat.
