Two women killed in family property feuds

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI : In separate incidents in the suburbs, two women were allegedly murdered by their own kin over sharing of family property.

Police said Kamalambal, a widow, was a resident of Korukkupet in R. K. Nagar police station limits. She was an employee of Chennai Corporation and lived with her son and daughter, Govindaraj (38) and Lakshmi (35).

Kamalambal had planned to give a share in the property, left behind by her husband, to her daughter too — a proposal which her son opposed.

On Sunday, a wordy altercation snowballed into an exchange of blows between Govindaraj and Lakshmi.

When Kamalambal intervened, she was hit with a stone her head, following which she died on the spot.

Lakshmi was admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

R. K. Nagar police have arrested Govindaraj and are conducting further investigation.

In another case of family dispute, a 38-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her elder brother.

Mahalingam, an autorickshaw driver was living in Avadi Tank Factory police station limits.

His sister, Renuka alias Bommi, was living alone after the death of her husband.

On Saturday evening, there was a wordy altercation between the siblings over the sharing of a family property. When Mahalingam spotted his sister going out with another person, he attacked her with a knife. She died on the spot.

The accused surrendered before the Avadi Tank Factory police.

Body found

The body of a 45-year-old man was found lying near a bush in Maduravoyal police station limits on Sunday. Police said the body had cut injuries on the neck and other parts.

The identity of the victim is yet to be established.

A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
