Summer coaching

The Slum Children Sports Talent and Education Development Society (SCSTEDS) in Vyasarpadi will offer free training in carrom, chess, basketball, English communication skills, basic computer programmes and personality development. Milk, bread, bananas, eggs, shoes and uniforms will be provided to the participants. Call 98415-83718 to register.

Health camp

Hindu Mission Hospital conducted a health camp in Melaiyur near Nellikuppam on Sunday. About 200 patients were screened, of whom 21 patients were referred for free eye surgery and four for general surgery.

30 held for gambling

The Prohibition Enforcement Wing arrested 30 persons on the charge of gambling in a prominent hotel on the Kodambakkam High Road on Sunday.

Police said they acted on a tip-off and raided the hotel, where they found businessmen and professionals allegedly gambling in two rooms.

About Rs. 6 lakh was recovered. A case has been registered by the Teynampet police.

Lecture

K.S. Chalam, Member, Union Public Service Commission, will deliver the fifth ONGC Endowment lecture on `Dr. Ambedkar and the relevance of the public sector today' at the University of Madras on Monday. The programme, scheduled to begin at 11.30 a.m., will be held at F-50, Centenary Building in the university's Chepauk campus.

Technical session for doctors

An hour long technical session for doctors on treating bedwetting in children and nocturia in the elderly will be held on Tuesday at Hotel Taj Coromandel. Jens Peter Norgaard, a professor of Urology from Ferring International Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark will speak at the event.
