Plea for welfare measures for Anglo-Indians

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI : The National Forum of Anglo-Indian Associations has urged the Government to implement welfare measures announced for the community.

The Forum called for the formation of the `Desk' for Anglo-Indians to examine the problems of the community and release of the Rs. 50 crore package to assist the community in rebuilding its institutions and heritages that were promised by the Union Minister of Minority Development, A.R. Antulay.

It appealed to the State Government to "protect the unique character and identity of the Anglo-Indian Board of the Education that oversees the 42 Anglo-Indian schools in Tamil Nadu and not to merge it with other boards," according to a press release. The Forum also asked the Members of Parliament and Legislative Assemblies belonging to the community to come together and establish a common agenda for the Anglo-Indians across the country.
