CHENNAI: Efforts should be made to preserve the intellectual and literary beauty of Tamil to enable future generations realise the greatness of the language, Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan said on Sunday. Of late, there had been a profusion of books in various Tamil dialects, as many writers and poets from various regions of the State preferred to write in their own dialects. This trend, if continued, would lead to the rise of multiple variations of the language rather than propagate its wholeness, he said at a function got up by Kanchi Manimozhiyar Tamil Peravai for the release of a book, `Chinthamani Thiran.' The book is authored by T. Periya Andavan, former director of the Tamil Development Department. Epics such as `Cheevaga Chinthamani,' on which the book was based were not just a source of recreation but of information and knowledge for several generations, Mr. Anbazhagan said. Efforts such as those made by Mr. Periya Andavan should be welcomed, as they would inspire young scholars, M.G.R Kazhagam founder RM. Veerappan said. The book was a commendable effort at throwing light on the various facets of the Tamil epic, M. Rajendran, Director, Tamil Development Department, said.
