Around the City

Power shutdown

The following areas will not have power supply from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 8, owing to a shutdown for maintenance works at the Somanur sub-station:

Seyur, Karumathampatti, Somanur, Nambiampalayam, Kombakkadu, Kaniyur, Vanjipalayam, Mangalam, Pallapalayam, Semmandampalayam, Rasipalayam, Paramasivampalayam, Sengathurai, Thottipalayam and K.V. Madhapur.

Regulatory orders

City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan has promulgated regulatory orders in the city for 15 days. The orders will be in force till May 20, he has said in a press release.

Processions, assemblies or meetings at any public place or thoroughfare will not be allowed during these days.

Kumbabhishekam

The kumbabhishekam of Abhaya Bharatha Yoga Anjaneyaswami Temple on Sullivan Street will be performed on May 9. Special pujas, vedaparayanam and discourses will be held from May 7, as part of the kumbabhishekam celebrations.

Discourse

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Namabhiksha Kendra will conduct a discourse by Sri Muralidhara and a mass prayer from May 9 to 11 at Sri Nehri Vidyalaya Grounds on Robertson Road at R.S. Puram.

Programme

Sri Sidhar Gnanapatasala will hold `Sivagnana Velvi' from May 13 to 20 on it premises `Sivakudil' at Kovaipudur.

Meeting

The Joint Committee of All-Coimbatore District Autorickshaw Workers' Unions has organised for May 15 a public meeting on meter fare. The meeting will be held at Thernilai Thidal as part of the committee's efforts to explain why the unions were seeking a higher fare, over what has been fixed by the Government.

Demand

The Tamil Nadu Government Anganwadi Workers' Sangham has demanded time-scale pay, promotions, weekly holiday, summer vacation, pension and other retirement benefits.

A meeting of the Sangham decided to demand that the Government announce these in the ongoing session of the Assembly.
