MAKING A POINT: Minister for Education M.A. Baby speaking at a public meeting organised to celebrate the 111th birth anniversary of V.K. Krishna Menon in the city on Sunday.
KOCHI: Even without recourse to nuclear power, India was considered a major power in the world when V.K. Krishan Menon was at the helm of foreign affairs, said Minister for Education and Culture M.A. Baby here on Sunday. He was speaking at a function to celebrate the 111th birthday of V.K. Krishna Menon, organised by the Krishna Menon Memorial Society and V.K. Krishna Menon Educational Initiative. Mr. Baby said the country earned respect because it had shown the path of a democratic world order. The politically correct stand taken by Jawahar Lal Nehru and V.K. Krishna Menon against imperialistic forces were approved by world leaders. "But, it is a pity to speak about the country's foreign policy today, specially when we remember Krishna Menon," said Mr. Baby. "Krishna Menon was part of history and has created history." However, over the years, the country's foreign policy underwent changes, with no statesmanship from any worthy leader, he said. E.X. Joseph, secretary of the society and president of the Educational Initiative, presided. P.K. Shamsuddin, former judge and Chairman of Gandhi Peace Foundation; K. Sukumaran, founder-president, Niyamasameeksha; and senior advocate Balagangadhara Menon participated.
