Chandy visits Thycaud hospital

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The new block at the Women and Children Hospital at Thycaud built at a cost of Rs.6.5 crore should be made operational immediately.

The 57 vacancies at the hospital should be filled up on a war footing, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has said.

He was speaking to mediapersons during a visit to the hospital, here, on Sunday. The delay in making the new block operational was negligence of the highest order.

If this block, capable of treating 250 persons, became operational, the present rush at the SAT Hospital could be reduced considerably.

On the death of former Governor Sikandar Bhakt, Mr. Chandy pointed out that the director of the Sree Chithra Medical Centre had conducted an inquiry into that incident and had submitted a report to the Health Department.

Mr. Chandy also visited the hospital wards. He was accompanied by DCC president V.S. Sivakumar and George Mercier, MLA.
