Youth killed in accident

Thiruvananthapuram: A 24-year-old youth was killed and a 17-year-old girl seriously injured when the motorbike on which they were travelling collided with a car near Chakka on Sunday afternoon. The police identified the deceased as Binu Kumar, a resident of Neerazhi Lane at Ulloor, near Medical College Hospital. The injured girl was identified as Thara, Binu Kumar's cousin. The girl was in a stable condition, hospital authorities said.

Three hacked

Thiruvananthapuram: An armed-gang attacked and injured three youth at Nemom on Sunday evening. The police identified the injured as Anil Kumar, 24, Rajesh, 22, and Shaji, 24. The police were investigating Surendran, Kumar and Rajesh in connection with the incident. An official said a drunken brawl between two gangs had resulted in the violence.

Gandhi book festival

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram District Sarvodaya Mandalam is organising a festival of books on Mahatma Gandhi and Gandhian themes at Technopark. English, Malayalam and Hindi books have been put on display. The exhibition and sale of books will conclude on May 11. — Staff Reporter

Dharna to be staged

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee will on Monday stage a dharna in protest against the administrative apathy that allegedly resulted in the death of 40 newborns from bacterial infection at SAT Hospital here in the past one month. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the dharna.
