New entry at railway station

The recently inaugurated west entry of the railway station at Thampanoor still remains out of bound for the public. As a result, the commuters have to negotiate through the old way near the parcel office, which is often packed with construction materials or vehicles that come to collect the parcels. The authorities should take steps to open the new entry and let it remain open at least till 8 p.m.

Suburban trains

The move to introduce suburban trains is indeed welcome. This will ease the rush of season ticket holders in reserved coaches of express trains. Since almost all Government offices are in Thiruvananthapuram this train service from Thiruvananthapuram to Kollam should be introduced at the earliest.

Traffic islands

The absence of a traffic island is causing utter confusion in Bakery Junction. Vehicular traffic from five major roads has to pass through this busy junction. Two or three traffic personnel deployed during peak hours find it hard to streamline the flow of vehicles. Traffic snarls and accidents are a common sight there. A similar situation prevails in front of General Hospital Junction. The authorities should install traffic lights or construct traffic islands at these two busy junctions.

Common man's vehicle

It has been 50 years since autosrickshaws have entered our roads. Now the common man's affordable vehicle for short distance is an auto. Autos are available at every corner of the city. The helpful behaviour of auto drivers has to be appreciated. But a few of them do charge more than the metre fare. This is not a good trend. Pre-paid auto counters must be opened in every important spot in the city. They will be of great help to those new to the city. Authorities must take steps to curb fleecing of passengers by the autorickshaw drivers.
