BANGALORE: The group of 27 persons belonging to Karnataka Yuva Vedike that raided the Athena Pub in the basement of The Leela Palace on Saturday and sent away couples alleging that their dress and behaviour did not match moral and cultural standards itself faces the charge of outraging the modesty of women besides being booked under other Sections of the Indian Penal Code. Led by Nanje Gowda (28), the group had barged into the pub around midnight, wearing read and yellow headbands and holding Kannada flags. Shouting slogans, the group condemned the "pub culture" and asked the men and the women gathered there to leave the place. It reportedly damaged the pub's property when its employees and some guests protested against its action. The police said the vedike activists were from Malur in Kolar district. Some of them reportedly misbehaved with the women. "The cause of preserving culture is really good. But this is not the way to do it," they said. The police said the activists were arrested and produced before a magistrate who sent them to judicial custody till May 20.
