BANGALORE: More than 25 trees crashed to the ground in the heavy rainfall, which was accompanied by gale and hailstorm at several places in the city on Sunday, obstructing movement of traffic.

Three persons travelling in a car had a narrow escape when a branch of a tree fell on the car near Santosh cinema in the Majestic area.

One person suffered minor injuries in the incident.

According to Partha Porpin, who suffered back injuries, they were moving towards Malleswaram from Jayanagar 9th Block when the branch of the tree fell on the car.

Mr. Porpin said that heavy rain accompanied by gusty wind resulted in the branch falling on the car around 5.15 p.m. Two others, who were travelling with Mr. Porpin, escaped unhurt. The incident caused heavy damage to the car.

He said a first information report (FIR) had been filed with the Upparpet police station.

Big trees near the Kanakadasa Circle in Gandhinagar, Seshadripuram, K.G. Halli, Magadi Road, Malleswaram, Bangalore University campus and Girinagar were uprooted.

Inundated

Besides, water inundated several low-lying areas in K.P. Agrahara and Chikpet.

Elsewhere, two cars were damaged in the rainfall and an electric pole came down in Banashankari.

When it rained towards the last week of April, most of the low-lying areas were inundated.

It may also be recalled that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who inspected rain-affected areas in the city recently, had taken officials to task for the slow pace of work on the storm water drain.
