dated May 8, 1957: National Book Trust

The Government of India have appointed Mr. C.D. Deshmukh, UGC Chairman, as Chairman of the National Book Trust set up last year. The Board of Trustees will consist of 15 members besides the Chairman. The other members are: Dr. A.L. Mudaliar, Dr. Mulk Raj Anand, Mr. Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Mr. K.A. Abbas, Mr. Peter Jayasinghe, Dr. Zakir Hussain, Mr. Dalip Kumar Gupta, Prof. M. Mujeeb and Dr. D.G. Tendulkar. It will also have two representatives of the Sahitya Akademi - Mr. Humayun Kabir and Mr. K.R. Kripalani - the Education Secretary and a representative each of the Ministries of Finance and Information and Broadcasting. The appointment of the 15th member will be announced later.
