Exhibition titled "Lost Article" on display in the Capital

COLOURS GALORE: A work by artist George Martin

NEW DELHI: India Habitat Centre in collaboration with Art India magazine has brought to the Capital "Lost Article" -- an eclectic exhibition comprising an interesting mix of paintings, sculptures and installations by noted artist George Martin.

Curated by Alka Pande, the exhibition that opened at Visual Arts Gallery here on Monday will be on view up to May 12.

Speaking about the exhibition and his work, George says: "The 21st century has opened immense possibilities to explore large areas of cultural complexities arising out of our technological sensibilities. Enquiring into issues within this context is part of my analysis and priority. Most of my works exist somewhere between objects and images. As both site and site-specific experience, they appear as autonomous, self-contained entities, inviting the viewer to experience the work of art not as an object but as a place or site.''

"My works, whether two-dimensional or three-dimensional, reflect the realms of freedom in which the artist masterminds the rediscovery of a heightened reality,'' adds George.

Hailing from Kerala, George studied at the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram, and pursued his Masters at Government College of Art and Craft in Kolkata.

Many exhibitions

His works have been part of many exhibitions, including "Shifting Focus" at Air Gallery in London (2006); "Real-2006" at Visual Arts Gallery of India Habitat Centre (2006); "Conflicts and Dualities" at Nature Morte Art Gallery (2004); "Migration, City, Home" at the Birla Academy of Art And Culture in Kolkata among many others. He has also participated in several art residencies and workshops and is also the recipient of several awards.
