Coimbatore: The 49th and sixth all-India basketball tournaments for men and women for the Nachimuthu Gounder Cup and the CRI Pumps Trophy, organised by the Coimbatore District Basketball Association, will be held at the VOC Park Corporation Sports Complex courts here from May 10 to 15. Eight leading teams in the men's section and six in the women will participate in the tournament to be played under lights. Defending men's champion Indian Overseas Bank (Chennai) has opted out citing injury reasons. The organisers have also decided to drop the district-level qualifiers with an idea of strengthening the competition level in the tournament, which will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis for the first time.
The teams: Men: Indian Bank, ICF (Chennai), Indian Army (Delhi), Vijaya Bank (Karnataka), South Eastern Central Railway (Raipur), KSEB (Thirunvananthapuram), South Central Railway (Secunderabad), Customs & Central Excise (Kochi). Women: KSEB, Western Railway, Central Railway (Mumbai), Southern Railway (Chennai), South Central Railway (Secunderabad), Kerala Juniors (Kerala). Sports Reporter
