NTPC Kahalgaon unit on stream

Commissions 500 MW capacity in super thermal power project

NEW DELHI: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on Monday commissioned the first 500 MW unit of stage II in the first phase of the Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power project in Bhagalpur district of Bihar.

The first unit was commissioned by the Union Power Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde, in the presence of the local Member of Parliament, Shahnawaz Hussain, Secretary (Power), Anil Razdan and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NTPC, T. Sankaralingam.

With the commissioning of this unit, the total installed capacity of Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power project has gone up to 1,340 MW.

The total planned capacity of the project is 2,340 MW with four units of 210 MW each planned in the first stage and three units of 500 MW each conceived in the second stage.

The power from the project will be supplied to the States of eastern, north eastern, northern and western regions.

The commissioning of the project would go a long way in catering to the rising shortage of power in the region and would also enable transfer of surplus power to states faced with severe shortage.
