NEW DELHI: Making its entry into the premium A3 segment, Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) on Monday launched its much-awaited sedan, SX4. Powered by its new global `M' series engine and built on a brand new platform, SX4 comes with two variants that have been priced at Rs. 6.18 lakh and Rs. 6.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The feature-packed SX4 is the Suzuki Motor Corporation's second global car after Swift. "The sedan is making its debut in India, before being launched in Europe and Japan. This highlights the role of the Indian market in the company's scheme of things,'' MUL Managing Director and CEO Jagdish Khattar said here after launching the sedan.

"This car will not only add to Maruti's portfolio but also help us in reinforcing our presence in the A3 segment. It will transform our image — from being India's leading small car manufacturer to a complete carmaker,'' he added.

Being manufactured at the MUL's new facility at Manesar near Gurgaon, SX4 is fitted with an advanced `M' series 1.6 litre engine designed to be compliant with Euro 4 and Euro 5 norms in future. Suzuki has developed this engine.

SX4 is available in two variants — Vxi and Zxi. In addition, Zxi comes with the option of leather seats and steering cover and it is priced at Rs. 7.24 lakh.

"We are confident that SX4 will have an advantage over other vehicles in the same segment,'' Mr. Khattar said.

MUL has despatched 1,500 units of SX4 and has decided to gradually roll out the vehicle in the entire country.
