Amol Chauhan mourned

Special Correspondent

MUMBAI: The death of Amol Chauhan, 27, Director of Parle Products, was received with shock and disbelief in Mumbai.

Mr. Chauhan died in the Kenya Airways plane crash in Cameroon. He leaves his wife, Hima, who is expecting.

Mr. Chauhan was Vice-President of the Biscuit Manufacturers' Association for the last one and a half years. Association spokesperson Rajesh Jain told The Hindu that "at a young age, he [Mr. Chauhan] was an able administrator and someone who led our foray into the global market." Mr. Chauhan was one of the 15 Indian passengers on board the plane and was going to Nairobi on a business trip. On Sunday, anxious visitors thronged his residence at Vile Parle to know his condition. Soon after the news broke, Mr. Chauhan's brother Arup left for Cameroon. Mr. Chauhan was also a talented sharp shooter and represented Maharashtra. In 2004, he won the Shiv Chatrapati award. Ace shooter and his teammate Ashok Pandit told The Hindu , at the recently held National Games in Guwahati, that the Maharashtra team had won two silvers. The team had also won a gold in the open category at another meeting. "Amol was a fine shooter and a good human being and he will be sorely missed," Mr. Pandit said.

Three members of the Chauhan family have died in air accidents.
