Kolkata: The West Bengal Government has decided to set up a few additional police camps in the troubled Nandigram-Khejuri areas of Purbo Medinipur district and take steps to ensure essential services there in accordance with a recent directive of the Calcutta High Court. The Left Front leadership has given the go-ahead to the Front constituents to start a dialogue either jointly or separately with the Opposition in a move to restore normality in the region. In the face of the Opposition's decision not to attend all-party meetings for peace convened by the local authorities, the State administration has decided on bilateral talks with different political parties, including the Opposition, in the Nandigram area to elaborate on the High Court directives to bring normality there. It was decided at a high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee here on Monday that the State administration would give priority to explaining to the parties concerned the need for creating a situation that facilitates the execution of the High Court order rather than depending primarily on the police for ensuring peace there. "A few more police camps will be set up in certain areas only to prevent fresh trouble as both the sides concerned have expressed their apprehensions," Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy said. The purpose will be "to stabilise only the fringe areas and not to enter fresh areas," he said.
