`Satyagraha' for more PDS grain
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE:
The Karnataka Prantha Krushi Kulikarara Sangha will observe a mass satyagraha in front of the Chief Minister's official residence in Bangalore on Wednesday demanding withdrawal of the unit method of the Public Distribution System (PDS) under which the quantity of foodgrains is determined based on the size of the family.
Sangha's Karnataka State Agricultural Workers' Union president Nityananda Swami and general secretary Chandrappa Hoskera said about 6,000 farm workers from various parts of the State would participate in the satyagraha.
They said that under the unit method, each person would get four kg of rice and one kg of wheat a month. This was inadequate. They demanded that the Government should withdraw this method and restore the earlier method of PDS.
