BANGALORE: The Government will soon rectify anomalies in the reservation of wards for 207 urban local bodies and submit a reservation list to the Karnataka High Court, said Minister for Municipal Administration R. Srinivas. The High Court has directed the Government to submit the reservation list to it before June 22. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, he refuted charges made by the Congress that the Government was deliberately postponing the elections with the fear of defeat. Following lapses in the reservation of wards, the High Court directed the Government to complete the process rectify the reservation on or before nine weeks from the date of its order. Consequently, the elections to local bodies were postponed, he said. The Congress on Saturday urged Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to direct the Government to delegate powers to the State Election Commission to rectify the anomalies in the reservation of wards in 207 local bodies. Mr. Srinivas said the Commission had refused to undertake the work on grounds of shortage of staff. The department released Rs. 85 crore for various urban local bodies to tackle drinking water problem, he said.
