HASSAN: The 25th "grama vastavya" by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at Srirampura village in the district, where he stayed overnight on Sunday, had some firsts to its credit. The Chief Minister stayed at the house of a member of the Sudugadu Sidda tribe. It was the first one in which in both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa participated. It was the first grama vastavya by the Chief Minister in his home district. For the first time too, Mr. Kumaraswamy arrived in the village at the stroke of 9 p.m. on Sunday and attended cultural programmes.

Srirampura village, which has 99 houses and a population of 506, was colourfully decorated for the occasion. All the houses had been painted and whitewashed. Roads with drains had been built. Additional streetlights were installed. The scene that met the eyes when one entered the village from the Arakalagudu Madikeri main road resembled that of a jathre. The road was packed with government vehicles, and journalists could be seen moving about with cameras. Over 5,000 people had assembled in the village, making it difficult for the police to control them. Minister in charge of the district H.D. Revanna accompanied Mr. Kumaraswamy and Mr. Yediyurappa and attended the cultural function. He was present when the Chief Minister addressed the media. Immediately after the function, however, Mr. Revanna left for Holenarsipur.

On Monday morning, when Mr. Kumaraswamy participated in the Janata Darshan, Mr. Revanna was absent. So too was Minister for Women and Child Welfare H.K. Kumaraswamy, who is from the district.

Afterwards the Chief Minister interacted for some time with the family members.

The Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister went to bed at 11 p.m. At 5 a.m. on Monday, Mr. Yediyurappa left for Bangalore, while Mr. Kumaraswamy drove to Ramanathapuram, bathed in the Cauvery river, offered prayers at the Subramanya temple and returned to Srirampura. He planted a sapling on the premises of the Government Primary School before listening to the grievances of people at the Janata Darshan.
