KOCHI. The managements of private medical and engineering colleges in the State have decided to go ahead with their own admission process based on the Supreme Court verdict allowing them to admit students to 100 per cent seats this year. The Kerala Private Medical College Managements Association will soon publish the prospectus for admission. Association chairman George Paul said the advertisement explaining the admission process for this year would be issued in the coming days. He said the association representatives would meet within two days to finalise the admission process. Mr. Paul ruled out talks with the Government. He said the Government did not want to understand the problems of the private medical college managements. The association said it was ready to offer scholarship to students from the economically weaker sections, if the Government did not object to the fee structure submitted by the managements before the P.A. Mohammed Committee. The Kerala State Self-financing Engineering College Managements has also welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on admission to professional colleges this year. Association president G.P.C. Nayar said they would select students on the basis of marks scored in classes X, XII and the rank in the entrance examination conducted by the State Commissioner of Entrance Examinations. Mr. Nayar said a general body meeting of the association would be held soon to finalise the admission procedure. The meeting would also discuss the option of conducting a separate entrance test for admitting students this year, he said. Mr. Nayar said individual managements would implement the fee structure submitted to the Fee Regulatory Committee, headed by the former judge P. A. Mohammed. He said that managements have proposed a fee structure ranging between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 75,000. The engineering college managements would not hold interviews for admitting students this year.
