Minister promises safe drinking water to fluoride-hit villages

Assures farmers of uninterrupted power supply

  • Villagers seek funds for internal roads

    KHAMMAM: Minister for Health and family welfare Sambhani Chandrasekhar said here on Monday that the fluoride-affected villages in Palair area of Khammam district would be provided with safe drinking water under a time-bound programme.

    Addressing a gram sabha during the `Praja Patham' programme at Kamalapuram village in Mudigonda mandal, he said that a majority of the villages were covered by the pilot project taken up to provide fluoride free water. Rest of the habitations would be covered under the expansion programme to be implemented this year.

    Power situation

    He laid the foundation stone for 33/11 kv sub-station sanctioned at Pummy village in Mudigonda mandal and in the industrial area near the town. He said steps were being taken to improve the power supply situation. He assured the farmers of uninterrupted supply once the new projects were completed. He made a surprise visit to the primary health centre and had a thorough interaction with outpatients. He asked the hospital authorities to pay attention to the upkeep of the hospital as well as sanitation.

    At Laksmipuram village, people requested the minister for 24-hour supply of power during the peak summer. They also urged the Minister for sanction of funds for development of internal roads. Assuring them of immediate steps to improve the power situation as well as the roads, he said that sub-stations for which he had laid the foundation stone would be completed in three months.

    The Minister, who visited his constituency for the first time after his induction into the Cabinet was accorded a rousing welcome by people in villages. Zilla Parishad Chairperson G. Vijayalakshmi and Khammam revenue divisional officer Chandrasekhar Reddy were among those who took part in the programme.
