ANANTAPUR: The police foiled an alleged bid of syndication in the railway tenders for different works on the Guntakal-Bellary section of the Guntakal Division of South Central Railway at Guntakal on Monday. In all, 10 persons from Chippagiri area in neighbouring Kurnool district were arrested. According to information reaching here, four of the 10 persons who were arrested were accused in the double murder case of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader V. Sreeramulu and his wife in 2006. Hunting sickles and iron rods were also seized from the vehicle in which they were travelling. They allegedly reached Guntakal to influence the bidders to form a syndicate by threatening them with dire consequences. In all, tenders were called for 14 works worth Rs. 7.64 crores and the arrested group was there in connection with two works.
Weapons found
The police found weapons in the four-wheeler during the checking of the vehicle and on questioning those travelling in the vehicle told the police that they had come to file bids for railway tenders. Meanwhile, police sources stated that three police constables from the neighbouring district had also accompanied the arrested persons but they were let off by the police in Guntakal after being warned.
