Naidu leaves for Switzerland?

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu and his wife N. Bhuvaneswari left here on Monday morning on a foreign holiday.

Mr. Naidu's aides as well as party sources refused to furnish details of the five-day trip saying it was kept confidential on grounds of security.

They said Mr. Naidu might have headed for Switzerland and that he would return to the city on May 11. - Special Correspondent

State to focus on port development

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Government has initiated measures to tap the potential of the vast coastline abutting State by development several minor and major ports, Infrastructure and Ports Minister M. Venkata Ramana Rao said. Mr. Rao, who took charge on Monday, said works on development of Gangavaram port were launched recently and ground was being prepared for developing Machilipatnam port. - Special Correspondent

Moldtek acquires American KPO

HYDERABAD: Moldtek Technologies Ltd on Monday announced the acquisition of an American KPO Engineering & Detailing Company, Cross Roads Detailing Inc., located in Indiana, USA, promoted by an American for a total consideration of US $ 1.3 million.

It would become a wholly owned subsidiary of Moldtek, according to a company release.

150th anniversary of `War of Independence'

HYDERABAD: Celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the First War of Independence will be held in the State from May 10, according to Konda Lakshman Bapuji, member, newly formed Committee of Eminent Freedom Fighters, and former Minister K. V. Keshavulu.

In a press release on Monday, they said a function was proposed on July 17 to commemorate the attack on British Residency in Sultan Bazar by Turr-e-baz Khan and others 150 years ago. - Special Correspondent

Woman duped

KURNOOL: A woman was duped into losing eight tolas of gold on Monday. According to reports, the woman bought eight tolas gold at a Jewellery shop, where a stranger made acquaintance with her. After engaging the women in a conversation, the stranger escaped with the jewellery. Special Correspondent

CPI threatens stir on civic issues

KHAMMAM: A delegation of the CPI town committee on Monday made a representation to the Khammam municipal commissioner seeking immediate steps to improve water supply and sanitation in the town. Led by town committee secretary Md. Salam, the delegation threatened to launch stir if the civic administration failed to respond positively.

Tributes paid to Alluri

Kakinada: Glowing tributes were paid to Alluri Seetharamaraju, the legendary revolutionary, at a programme held at the NFCL road junction here on Monday to mark his 83rd death anniversary under the aegis of the Seetharamaraju Smaraka Kala Vedika.

Power supply to pumping scheme

Rajahmundry: Rowthu Suryaprakash Rao, MLA, has said that Andhra Pradesh Paper Mill will supply additional power to the generator and motors of Nalla Channel pumping scheme which will drain out water into Godavari during floods.

Addressing ward committee meetings in 35th and 42nd wards during `Praja Patham' on Monday, he said that the APPM management was already consulted on the issue and it agreed to supply power. -Staff Reporter.

Eight held in murder case

Kakinada: Youth Congress leader Vegulla Sivababu along with seven others were arrested on Monday by the police in connection with the murder of Yepuri Muralimohan alias Bhabi, lorry workers' union leader.

He was murdered on April 26 night.
