ANANTAPUR: The Jana Swasthya Abhiyan (JSA) has decided to conduct a public hearing and survey on the health services being offered in the Government General Hospital attached to the Government Medical College here on May 16. A social audit will also be conducted on the patients referred outside by doctors in the hospital. Speaking to newspersons here on Monday, State vice-president of Jana Vignana Vedika M. Geyanand said the exercise was being taken as part of the campaign to protect the Government hospitals and public health sector. The campaign was aimed at strengthening the system and not to weaken or discourage it, he said. The survey would be conducted with the help of about 100 activists of JSA by interacting with the patients as wells as the doctors and others staff.
Details sought
A team of JSA had met Superintendent of the Hospital E.A. Santosha Kumari and sought details about the budget, services being offered, equipment available, emergency care, profile of patients, details of patients being referred outside and others, among 30 points. The JSA demanded that no patient turning up at Government hospitals should be referred outside for any investigation/tests and all medicines prescribed by doctors in required quantity should be given to the patients in the hospitals itself. The problems learnt and documented during the survey on denial of healthcare and other facilities like drinking water and sanitation could be taken to the notice of Government and the human rights bodies. Healthcare was a human right and the Government had the responsibility of meeting it, he added.
