KADAPA: Brahmani Steels will establish a steel factory in Jammalamadugu constituency with an investment of Rs. 25,000 crores and an installed capacity of 10 million tonnes by 2017, its promoter G. Janardhana Reddy, an MLC at Bellary, said on Monday. The steel factory would be the biggest in the country and would generate direct employment to 25,000 persons and indirect employment to two lakh persons in the area, Mr. Janardhana Reddy told newsmen at Kadapa aerodrome. Earlier, Mr. Reddy made an aerial inspection of suitable sites in Jammalamadugu in a helicopter owned by him, along with Karnataka Tourism and Textiles Minister Sriramulu, Jammalamadugu MLA C. Adinarayana Reddy and District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu. Mr. Janardhana Reddy said he would invest Rs. 4,500 crores on the steel factory within the next two years in the first phase and would generate direct employment to 5,000 persons. The MLC said he would discuss about facilities offered by the State Government with Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on his return from a tour of the US. The factory required 8,000 acres of land and two tmcft. of water. Ten per cent water from any irrigation project would be earmarked for industries and hence 2.80 tmcft. of water was available from Gandikota reservoir having a capacity of 28 tmcft, he said.
