Teachers held for road blockade

CHENNAI : About 100 members affiliated to the Tamil Nadu I.E.D. Special Teachers Sangam staged a road blockade near Island Grounds on Monday. Police said they sought to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister in person. The teachers were handling special children under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme. Their demands included appointment of teachers on permanent scale from the contract system among others. All the arrested were released later in the day, police added.
