Finding ways to help them conquer the final frontier

BANGALORE: The schools that are part of The Hindu's NIE programme had explored ways during the entire academic year to achieve excellent results in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination held during March.

At some schools, teachers completed the portions in time and conducted revision classes to make the students more confident.

Many schools arranged for talks by experts on how to overcome examination phobia and others conducted three preparatory tests to equip students to successfully conquer the final frontier, as it were.

Hence, students remarked that the preparatory tests were more than the board examination. And finally, when the results were out, it was time to celebrate.

St. John's

"We conducted free coaching classes after school hours to build confidence in students. In all, 56 students have passed in first class. I thank our teachers for this success," said Dakshayini Ravi, Principal, St. John's High School, Papareddypalya.

She said that this year the students have scored less in languages.

Holy Child

"Our effort was continuous to achieve excellent results. Our teachers have toiled during the academic year and the credit for good results goes to them," said Shobha Sathish, principal, Holy Child English School, Srinivasnagar.

The school conducted orientation classes on how to cope with examination stress and it arranged for talks by resource persons to boost the confidence of the students.

The school is also conducting special coaching classes for students who are aspiring to join Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), she added.

Out of 94 students who appeared for the examination, 80 students have passed in first class. Arjun Upadhya (98.4 per cent) is the school topper, while Harsha P., (96.8 per cent) has come second.

St. John's, Vijayanagar

Fourteen students of St. John's High School, Vijayanagar, have scored above 90 per cent. "We expected our topper to score above 98 per cent but his aggregate has come down as he has scored less in languages," said teacher Kanchana T.E.

She said that all the students had scored well in the preparatory tests. "Some students were surprised when they saw their marks. They have got fewer marks in some subjects. They have applied for photocopy of answer sheets," she said. Amogha Varsha (96.8 per cent) is the school topper. Ujwal Jaju (95.36 per cent) has stood second.
