New Delhi: With the Supreme Court putting a spanner in the works on efforts to notify more roads for mixed and commercial use in the Capital, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday said it was a setback for the Congress Government at the Centre as well as in the State as they had failed to convince the apex court over the issue. The Chairman of the high-powered MCD Standing Committee, Vijendra Gupta, said, "The process of notifying more roads has come to a halt with today's ruling and the civic body will not notify anymore roads till the date of next hearing."
307 roads notified
The MCD on Friday had notified a total of 307 roads for mixed and commercial use and sent it to the Delhi Government for clearance. On whether the work on surveying the roads for notification would also be stopped, Mr. Gupta said, "We had already completed the survey work for any notification. It is only the three-month extension we had sought for a re-survey which has been rejected." - PTI
