BANGALORE: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from Anekal in Bangalore district on Saturday, was rescued by the Anekal police in Kolar district on Sunday afternoon. The police arrested two persons, one of whom is said to be the uncle of the boy, in this connection. According to the police, Nagabhushan, son of Vijaya Kumar and Nagarathnamma, was playing near his house when two persons took him away. Vijaya Kumar had died a year ago in an accident, polic e said. Nagarathnamma immediately approached the police and lodged a complaint.
Ransom
Later in the day, Nagarathnamma got a few phone calls on her mobile phone demanding a ransom of Rs. 2 lakh for the release of her son. The kidnappers threatened Nagarathnamma that the boy would be murdered if she did not pay up. The police traced the calls to Kolar district. On one such last call, the kidnappers asked the mother to bring the money to Narasapura in Kolar district to get her son released. A police team comprising Circle Inspector Mallikarjuna and Sub Inspector Rajesh went to Narasapura along with the mother and soon apprehended the accused. Police gave the names of the accused as Ramaswamy (25), a resident of Anekal and Kuppuswamy (35), resident of Bagalur near Hosur in Tamil Nadu.
Demand for ransom
The police said that Ramaswamy is the brother of Vijaya Kumar and had demanded money from Nagarathnamma to perform the marriage of his sister. When she did not give the money, he kidnapped the boy as advised by Kuppuswamy, police said.
