Flooding, the bane of city

Thiruvananthapuram is no stranger to water-logging. After each robust rain East Fort and Pazhavangadi look like annexes of the Amayinzhanchan canal. Even now - after a portion of the road was raised - the situation in the areas continues unchanged. But water logging at Kowdiar? The portion of road that curves from Kowdiar junction to Kuravankonam gets waterlogged after each rain. Local people say the burgeoning construction activity in the locality has blocked the drainage channels that existed in the area. Once this portion of the road gets waterlogged the manhole here that is above the road level cannot be spotted easily by motorists. This, in spite of the fact that this area is well lit thanks to the flood lights in the nearby park.

All this makes for a perfect spot for a traffic accident to happen.
